About Khwaja Mir Dard
Khwaja Mir Dard was the greatest Sufi poet of the Urdu language, a mystic whose verse transforms personal pain into a path toward the divine. Born in Delhi in 1721, he was the son of a Sufi saint and himself a master of the Naqshbandi order. His poetry is marked by its spiritual depth, its simplicity, and a quality of inner stillness that sets it apart from all other Urdu verse. He saw poetry as a form of worship — each ghazal a prayer, each sher a step on the path to God. He died in Delhi in 1785, leaving behind a Diwan that is one of the treasures of Urdu literature.
