About Kaifi Azmi
Kaifi Azmi was a progressive Urdu poet, lyricist, and activist born in Azamgarh in 1919. A committed communist and member of the Progressive Writers' Movement, his poetry championed the rights of the poor, women, and the marginalised. As a film lyricist, he wrote some of the most enduring songs in Hindi cinema, including the iconic 'Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Sitam.' His verse is distinguished by its emotional depth, its political clarity, and a lyrical beauty that never sacrifices feeling for ideology.
