About Allama Iqbal

Sir Muhammad Iqbal, known as Allama Iqbal, was the philosopher-poet of the East whose verse awakened a generation. Born in Sialkot in 1877, he studied in Lahore, Cambridge, and Munich, earning a doctorate in Persian metaphysics. His poetry in Urdu and Persian is a sustained meditation on selfhood (khudi), the decline of Muslim civilisation, and the possibility of spiritual and political renaissance. His Urdu collections — Bang-e-Dara, Bal-e-Jibril, Zarb-e-Kalim — and his Persian masterworks — Asrar-e-Khudi, Rumuz-e-Bekhudi, Javid Nama — place him among the greatest poets of the twentieth century. He is revered as the national poet of Pakistan and the spiritual father of its founding idea.
